Our story

At Werner Farms, everything we do is rooted in family, resilience, sustainability, and a deep respect for the land and animals entrusted to us. As a family farm in Nebraska, we are proud to raise pasture-raised pork in Nebraska for families who care about where their food comes from.

For me, farming isn’t something we chose lightly — it’s something I was raised in. I grew up watching my dad raise cattle with pride and discipline, always emphasizing that caring for livestock is a responsibility, not just a business. When he passed away at a young age, our world shifted overnight. But the farm didn’t stop. My mom continued running the operation while raising my brother and me, showing us what true strength, hard work, and compassion look like in action. She proved that stewardship and perseverance go hand in hand — lessons that continue to guide our farm today.

A family of three standing outdoors in a field of tall grass with trees in the background. The man has a beard and glasses, wearing a white shirt and jeans. The woman has long wavy hair, wearing a white dress. The young girl, also in white, stands in front of them. The scene is lit with warm sunlight, giving a cheerful and peaceful atmosphere.

Andrew was also raised in agriculture. He grew up on a Nebraska row crop operation, learning the value of hard work and stewardship from an early age. After we married in 2017, we began putting up hay on small acres alongside his dad, gradually building experience and recognizing the opportunity it created. What started as a small addition to the operation steadily grew, and together Andrew and his dad made the decision to transition the farm from primarily row crops into a dedicated hay operation.

That shift wasn’t just about changing crops — it was about creating a more sustainable, diversified model that could better support livestock, improve soil health, and strengthen the long-term future of our family farm. Today, that hay operation remains a vital foundation of Werner Farms and plays an important role in supporting our livestock and pasture-raised pork production here in Nebraska.

Our first “gateway animals” were chickens, and soon we were selling fresh farm eggs to neighbors and friends. Not long after, we raised our first feeder pigs to fill our own freezer. The quality, flavor, and peace of mind that came from knowing exactly how our pork was raised — what they were fed, how they were cared for, and the conditions they lived in — changed everything for us.

Friends and family began asking for their own pork, and that simple request grew into our direct-to-consumer pork business. We began offering pasture-raised pork in Nebraska by the half and whole hog — hormone-free, antibiotic-free, and raised with transparency and intention. Families across Nebraska were looking for locally raised pork they could trust, and we were proud to provide that connection.

As our passion and experience grew, so did our herd. We added Clarence, our boar, and launched our own breeding operation — committed to raising healthy pigs on open pasture. Today, Werner Farms specializes in pasture-raised pork Nebraska families can feel confident serving at their own tables. We offer whole hogs, half hogs, and individual cuts of locally raised pork, sold directly from our farm to your family.

Now, we get to share this way of life with our daughter. She is growing up learning responsibility through farm chores, compassion through caring for animals, and stewardship of the land. We believe raising pasture-raised pork in Nebraska isn’t just about producing meat — it’s about raising food the right way.

We know buying directly from a farm might be new for some folks—and we’re here to make it easy and enjoyable.
